Sodium bromate belongs to Class 5.1 strong oxidizing agents, with core functions as an oxidizing agent under acidic conditions and a bromine generator. The following are the mainstream application areas (while indicating typical uses and key points in the industry)
1. Textile printing and dyeing industry
Used as an oxidizing agent for sulfide dyes and vat dyes, promoting the full color development of dyes, improving color fastness and uniformity;
Wool fabric bleaching and wool anti shrink finishing agents;
Oxidation agent for printing and dyeing stripping and fading processes.
2. Mining/Precious Metal Extraction
Combined with sodium bromide, bromine is generated in an acidic system as a non cyanide leaching agent for gold;
Used for leaching and recovering precious metals such as gold and platinum from gold mines and electronic waste, as an alternative process to cyanide method;
Suitable for the recovery of difficult to process gold mines and precious metals from circuit boards.
3. Chemical and organic synthesis industries
Organic reaction selective oxidant;
Synthetic pharmaceutical intermediates (antibiotics such as hydroxyphenylglycine), dye intermediates, and fragrance intermediates;
In situ preparation of bromine in the laboratory (sodium bromate+sodium bromide+acid);
Chemical analysis reagents, used for the determination of phenolic substances and as reference oxidants for volumetric analysis.
4. Daily chemical and beauty industry
Cold perm neutralizer (second perm agent), oxidative styling, is a traditional formula ingredient;
Note: Multiple countries have limited value controls on the use of sodium bromate in toiletries.
5. Electronic industry
PCB circuit board etching auxiliary oxidant;
Electronic component cleaning and precious metal coating stripping process.
6. Pesticide industry
Synthesis of intermediates for insecticides and fungicides;
Agricultural oxidizing agents (with relatively little application scale).
