What are the advantages of ammonium bromide as an analytical reagent

Sources:www.worldbrom.com | PublishDate:2026.07.07

1、 High purity and easy to produce standards, suitable for titration reference/calibration
1. Analyze pure grade with high purity (≥ 99.5%) and strict impurity control
      Low content of heavy metals, sulfates, bromate, and chloride ions, which do not interfere with precipitation titration and trace metal detection; Burning residue ≤ 0.01%, with minimal blank error, can be directly used for calibration of silver nitrate standard solution (Volhard method, Mohr method silver titration), as a bromide ion reference substance, prepared into a standard bromide ion working solution, and calibrated for halide detection curve.
2. Stable composition and correct stoichiometry
      The crystal components are uniform, without crystal water, and the weighing calculation is simple, without the need to correct crystal water loss; Compared to potassium bromide and sodium bromide, ammonium ions have no residual interference from alkali metal ions and are suitable for low detection limit microanalysis.
2、 Equipped with a weak acidic buffer system, the reaction selectivity is stronger (core unique advantage)
      Ammonium bromide aqueous solution naturally hydrolyzes to a weakly acidic pH of 4.5-6.0, with its own buffering capacity; Potassium bromide and sodium bromide solutions are neutral and have no self buffering effect:
      Silver titration and metal precipitation reaction can stably maintain a slightly acidic environment and suppress interference from metal hydroxide precipitation;
      When analyzing trace amounts of copper, tin, and arsenic droplets, a weak acid environment prevents the hydrolysis of the tested ions, resulting in more sensitive color and precipitation reactions;
       No additional acetic acid buffer solution is required, simplifying the reagent preparation steps and reducing the introduction of foreign impurities.
3、 Ammonium ions can be thermally decomposed and volatilized, with no solid residue, suitable for pre-treatment of ash/trace detection
      Heat induced sublimation and decomposition (sublimation at 235 ℃ vacuum and 452 ℃ atmospheric pressure)
      At high temperatures, it completely decomposes into NH3 and HBr gases, with no metal salt residue; Comparing the residual potassium/sodium oxides after heating KBr and NaBr can contaminate the crucible and interfere with trace heavy metal  determination.
      Used for wet digestion and co precipitation enrichment of metal ions in samples, low-temperature heating can completely remove the ammonium bromide matrix without introducing matrix interference, significantly reducing blank values, and suitable for ICP and atomic absorption microanalysis.
4、 Good solubility, simple solution preparation, complete ion release
      The solubility in water at 25 ℃ reaches 97g/100mL, and it quickly dissolves completely in cold water without any crystal precipitation; Slightly soluble in ethanol, suitable for aqueous and aqueous organic mixed analysis systems:
      The preparation of high concentration bromide ion reserve solution is stable, and it is not easy to separate and precipitate during long-term storage;
      In the precipitation reaction, Br ⁻ dissociates sufficiently and quantitatively forms characteristic precipitates with Ag ⁺, Pb ² ⁺, Cu ⁺, etc. The titration endpoint is clear and the jump is obvious.
5、 Multi functional dual ion system, versatile with one reagent, suitable for various analysis scenarios
      Simultaneously providing two characteristic ions, Br ⁻ and NH ₄, one set of reagents can complete multiple qualitative and quantitative tests:
      Bromine ion function: halide titration standard, silver ion quantification, halide ion precipitation separation;
      Ammonium ion function: can synchronously verify ammonium salts, used for Kjeldahl nitrogen assisted control and qualitative identification of ammonium ions;
      A specialized reagent for trace copper droplet analysis, which forms characteristic color complexes with copper under weak acidity, with higher sensitivity than alkali metal bromides.
6、 Low interference, wide compatibility, adaptable to multiple analysis methods
      It does not produce strong alkali metal ions and does not form insoluble salts with phosphate and sulfate ions, making it suitable for the detection of multi anion coexisting samples;
      Mild bromine source, no strong oxidation-reduction property, stable at room temperature, and will not oxidize the low valence metal ions to be tested;
      Suitable for five analytical operations: precipitation titration, droplet qualitative analysis, wet pretreatment, ion strength adjustment, and buffer medium preparation.
